Paul Schrader directs this Japanese biopic of the author and playwright Yukio Mishima who ended his life by means of seppuku ritual suicide. Mishima (Ken Ogata), passionate about merging life and art, battled internal contradictions as he tried to harmonise the two aspects of his being. The cast includes Kenji Sawada, Mashayuki Shionya and Junkichi Orimoto.
