The owners of this estate have been responsible for the development of the area, and one of the family's sons, Thomas Wentworth, played an important role in the prelude to the English Civil War. The Wentworth estate, with its spectacular monuments and follies, is represented in some previously unpublished photographs. This volume contains over 200 images showing village life, industry, prominent local people, events outings, historic buildings, churches and shops. Many of the homes and landmarks featured here have long since disappeared, but this important record of Hoyland life will make fascinating reading for residents and visitors alike.
