Photographer Joseph Hughes opened a studio in Bromsgrove in June 1897 attracting the custom of local people and over the next ten years he built up a catalogue of at least 2,000 glass negatives. The Hughes Collection was unseen for 100 years but now has been made available to the general public through various funding bodies including The Local Heritage Initiative, The Nationwide Building Society, The Countryside Agency and The Heritage Lottery Fund. Included in the book are images of street scenes, groups, events and portraits. This fascinating compilation will delight those with Bromsgrove connections and also appeal to people with ancestors who lived in the town. It should also interest to those with connections in Stroud, Gloucestershire where Mr Hughes lived and was buried.
