The book is an essential textbook for primary science modules, is linked to the primary science national curriculum, and provides teachers, trainers and tutors with a highly practical and accessible introduction to the fundamental aspects of teaching and learning primary science. It logically presents the essential knowledge that teachers need to know (at both KS1 and KS2) as well as ways to teach this. In addition to the subject knowledge content and classroom activities there are a range of other features throughout the book such as common misconceptions; self audit and test; and summary of key learning points for each chapter. The overall style and approach are likely to remain unchanged but there will be necessary revision and updating of the content so that the book continues to meet the needs of both beginning and developing primary science teachers, including those that may choose to specialize in this area (a liekly future requirement of primary ITT). Key changes envisaged include: *New material on the so-called 'Sci1' element of the primary science national curriculum i.e. science enquiry *More indepth consideration of assessment and the role of talk *Coverage of the intended new areas of the primary science curriculum such as evolution; static electricity; genetic modification; climate change; colour *Fresh new classroom activities where appropriate
