God in our Midst follows the pattern of the Christian year, with sections on 'Advent, Christmas and Epiphany', 'Jesus' Ministry' and 'Holy Week and Easter'. But the book also contains two sections devoted to pieces that either draw their immediate inspiration from the Old Testament, or have been written for special occasions. These pieces have also been composed in the light of the Gospels, and many of them make explicit use of their material. The Gospels suggests that Jesus went against the grain of his society by granting as much honour to women as to men, and the author has made careful efforts in this collection to give women their due. Relishing the room the Gospel stories leave for the imagination, he takes full advantage of it.
