This superb collection of over 200 images provides, for the first time, an illustrated account of the development of Trehafod from small valley village to being the heart of the South Wales Coalfield. It illustrates the area's divers history, from the earliest times, showing the industrial age and the sinking of the pits. The author's absorbing collection of photographs illustrates the Lewis Merthyr Collieries and Rhondda Heritage Park in the South Wales Coalfield and also gives a glimpse of village life in the valleys. The chapters show all aspects of life in Trehafod, including sports and leisure and church life, as well as featuring the focus of the town, the collieries, including the rise and fall of this once great mining area. Through the medium of photography the book captures the essence of the miner and village life as it used to be up to the new millennium and will appeal to both young and old. Some of the material included has been borrowed from and donated by various local sources and the book is dedicated to the people of the village and South Wales.
