A rags-to-riches story of a young man named Terry who began life on a council estate in Dagenham, Essex. His friends in that impoverished neighbourhood included George Carey (who went on to become Lord Carey, Archbishop of Canterbury), Dudley Moore (destined for Hollywood stardom), and the famous British entertainer, the late Max Bygraves. Terry's climb to success included covering two World Cups as a soccer journalist and ghosting his good friend Geoff Hurst's (later to become Sir Geoffrey Hurst) newspaper column before becoming Group Editor in Chief of Greater London and Essex Newspapers before the age of 30. A complete change of career saw him become Commodore of an ocean liner and then buying such diverse businesses as a vineyard, a golf course, a peat mine, a sand mine and yet more travel and publishing interests.
