This DVD includes the band's 60s live appearances on German TV (the only performances from that period of their career preserved on film for available for the first time in their entirety), a date with Dave Day including a banjo masterclass, biography, story how Gary Burger lost his voice and how Mike Fornatale rescued the Monks, original trailer, booklet with liner notes by the filmmakers and director Allison Anders, plus never-before-seen photographs. While the Beatles were singing catchy pop songs like "She Loves You" in front of screaming girls, the Monks were shaving tonsures into their heads and digging nihilism as American G.I.s in Germany. This cult favorite from the 1960s produced only one album, BLACK MONK TIME, but their progressive blend of early punk and techno still reverberates decades later. In this documentary, the band members reflect on their short time together.
